Emile Drouhin: Best Worker of France in 1958, he is the last representative of a family that counts four generations of MOF in cutlery. Although in retirement, he has lost nothing of his passion and continues to work for the renown of the great specialty Nogentaise in Nogent, Haute-Marne. Nogent, the capital of cutlery, counted in the fifties not far from 6,000 workers and 150 registered in the register of the Chamber of Crafts, in all that concerns the cutlery. Today, there are only 10%. Emile Drouhin is one of those, always in the same place, in the same workshop. For Emile, it is in the genes: in the family, one is born and extinct with the knife. The first to embark on the adventure was Emile Margaux (1855 - 1935), elected Meilleur Ouvrier de France in the cutlery category in 1924. Our Emile Drouhin, born in 1930, went to work at 14 years! "My father took me as a family helper and we worked together! we were both working. He was always drawing models. He was very intelligent, assimilated right away. At first, there was almost no than manicure tools. But it was always the same, we had more creation and imagination in the knives. Emile prepares the contest to become Best Worker of France, this diploma is a culmination in the career of a cutler! he obtains it in 1958 Today, Emile Drouhin continues the adventure at all costs, always working for private individuals or wholesale customers. This is the case of the owner of the Courty cutlery in Paris, which diffuses its models via Intemet, with Hermes too! In his workshop in Nogent, Emile manufactures on demand. The regulars come from Switzerland, Italy, England or Japan to push the door. Hunters especially, but also fervent collectors. Word of mouth does the rest. His know-how is recognized by all and his feats of arms are prestigious: here a cigar cutter that Hermès wants to cover with leather, there a model intended for the house Lorenzi in Milan, again for the Belgian Crown. Each piece is unique, handmade, designed, thought, polished, assembled, trimmed, sharpened ... It takes three days to take out a round knife, a fortnight for a more complicated. "It's always hard to see them leave, if it's up to me, I'll keep them all"
